The deadly shooting that took place on Saturday evening has led to the arrest of one man who the Myrtle Beach Police feel is connected to the crime. It took officers until about 4:30 p.m. Sunday to compile the facts needed in order for them to arrest Calvin Derrell Ford. He faces multiple charges, including: possession of a weapon during a violent crime, two counts of murder, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The police officers feel that there’s a good chance additional charges will be filed against Ford in the future
The information on the arrest warrant states that witnesses observed Ford arguing with one of the victims who was later shot. The same witness also stated that they saw Ford firing multiple rounds. At the time of his arrest, Ford was already under GPS monitoring that the investigators used to confirm both that Ford was at the scene at the time of the shooting and fled after the alleged time the shots were fired.
The victims are listed as 26 year old Dameion Alston and 27 year old Macquis Burgess. Both were transported to Grand Strand Medical Center where they both passed away as a result of their injuries.
According to police reports pertaining to the event, Station #1 firefighters were the first to hear both the shots and someone who pounded on their door seeking help.
When everyone arrived on the scene, both victims were already in critical condition.
Your heart has to go out to the family of the victims who find themselves not only dealing with the unexpected loss of their loved ones, but also have to deal with unanticipated financial fallout that goes hand in hand with these types of cases,” said John Bales Attorneys of Florida’s top personal injury firm. “I hope the family seeks legal advice during this trying time.”
Most people think that the only way that they can file a civil lawsuit in criminal cases such as this one is if the people accused of the crime are found guilty. That’s not strictly true. There have been situations where a person can be found guilty of a crime and forced to pay a jury awarded verdict even after they have escaped a criminal conviction.
It’s important to remember that every single case is different which is the family members of loved ones who have died a wrongful death similar to those of Dameion Alston and Macquis Burgess. The only way to determine how to proceed in a civil case is with the assistance of a good personal injury lawyer who has dedicated their life to helping the loved ones of victims who suffered a wrongful death. Not only will the personal injury lawyer investigate the crime and determine if there’s even enough evidence to justify the pursuit of a civil lawsuit, they will also handle the negotiation process.
